Broken or aching teeth
When a tooth breaks, aches or is knocked out, call us first. We keep room in the day for urgent visits when we can.
The office is not open around the clock. Call during our hours and tell us what happened, and we'll say what to do first and what we can do today. When we are closed and it is serious, go to an emergency room.

- Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.
What to do first
- 01
Step 1: A tooth knocked out
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently, don't scrub, and keep it moist in milk. Call us right away.
- 02
Step 2: A broken tooth
Rinse your mouth, save any pieces and hold a cold cloth to the cheek. Call us.
- 03
Step 3: A toothache
Rinse with warm water and floss gently around the tooth. Don't put aspirin on the gum. Call us, and tell us if there is swelling.
- 04
Step 4: Swelling in the face
Swelling that spreads, a fever or trouble swallowing needs an emergency room. See the notice on this page.
Good to know
Comfort
We numb the tooth before we work on it and stop whenever you ask. If the pain is severe, tell us when you call.
If you wait
A tooth that is cracked or infected can get worse quickly. Dr. Casillas tells you what could happen if treatment waits and what the choices are.
Risks and after-care
An urgent visit usually starts with stopping the problem and planning the rest. Dr. Casillas explains the risks of any treatment first. Some problems, like a spreading infection, need a hospital instead.
How it's billed
We give you a written estimate before treatment, including at an urgent visit. If you pay yourself, we tell you the fee first.
